PCL - Pharmacology and Toxicology Courses
A&S Pharmacology and Toxicology Course Descriptions
PCL475 - Neuropsychopharmacology (5/5)
Marking Scheme: 3 tests (30/30/40) all MC (60MCQ/test).
Lecturer: Dr. Burnham
A nice blend of neuroscience and pharmacology detailing pain, epilepsy, movement disorders, mood disorders etc. A historial/clinical/neurochemical/anatomical/pharmacological presentation of all major topics covered in the course.
There is quite a bit of material to cover but it all flows nicely (considering it is a 4th year course and you will have to restructure your notes to fit it all into one big picture for yourself + memorize drugs/what they do along the way). The tests are pretty darn fair and the professor interesting to listen to.
The course takes prime lecture slots 10-12 on *both* Tuesdays & Thursdays but the choice I made back in August was a good one -> really useful; I actually find myself much less confused whenever I stop by the pharmacy when the strange names now actually mean something.
PCL475 - Neuropsychopharmacology
The workload was high yes, but I would recommend this course more than any other course I took in my 4 years here.
I
finished with a 97, and 35% of the class gets over 90 every year. It is
extremely fair, and past tests are helpful. Not only that, the tests
are EASY! The MC is questions like "Which drug is used for epilepsy?"
and lists 5 drugs...and the answer is obvious if you've memorized the
drugs he has asked you too.
Not only that, the lectures are
highly informative and even entertaining. By the end of the first
semester, I would look forward to this class. I am a fairly negative
person about my experience at UT, but this truly was a bright spot. If
you choose to take it, you wont regret it.
